I recommend sticking to wholefoods and organic foods where possible. You don't have to think about chemicals & other added "extras" when you stick to the basics!
I wanted to drink cow's milk so bad but my gut doesn't agree yet (constipation). But I make my own soy milk, it's literally 2 ingredients: soy + water (I don't use salt as I don't know what difference it can make). A friend made his own oat milk as well but I try limiting some carbs, oat in it is own is okay for me, but the oat juice I avoid.
UPFs are everywhere, at this point I try to be realistic, eg. travelling. But 90% of the time I cook at home. For socialising, I try my best to eat very little or eat fruits. I offer my new friends to visit my flat instead so I can cook for them.
But super massive thank you for saying it that it's not an eating disorder because we simply want to eat properly, organic, fresh, and healthful from the nature. I used to think it was an orthorexia but hey, UPFs are basically not foods, so nothing is disordered here.
People say I eat too much for my body, but I'm not overweight or anything, I'm on the low end of the healthy BMI in fact. But because what I eat is mainly plants, I need the volume. I eat some animal proteins as well (I'm also an ex-vegan, it's because of my health), I follow the less inflammatory plan. If people eat the same volume as I do but only UPFs of course it's bad for their bodies. People also criticise my foods are less tasty, well it's because their taste buds are used to saltiness of crisps or instant noodles for example. This is how the majority of the world has their senses/taste buds altered by UPFs and we who try eating better feel we're disordered. Tragic.
Of note, I use an app called Yuka. You can scan bar codes of foods, toiletries, etc, and it scores them depending upon their ingredients. It also recommends better alternatives. I don’t need to give up oat milk, just the particular brand that I currently have 5 cartons of. I stocked up when it was on offer! 🤣
Such a fascinating and frightening book. I read it whilst on holiday last year. I remember that, at one point, I was eating some Pringles whilst reading Chris V-T’s words about them! 😕

I am also a fan of oat milk since discovering that I am intolerant of cow milk (not just lactose, but all three enzymes). I drink goat milk now. Not always easy to find.

I've added the book to my reading list (after you recommended it), and I have already recommended it to some friends. I've also stopped consuming Oatly, as much as I love it. I'm trying to stick to natural foods without additives and as few ingredients as possible. I went back to organic cow milk! I stopped buying regular protein powders a while ago because they make me bloated. After doing a lot of research, I found a company, https://orgainic.com/, that sells whey protein powder that doesn't have additives. I haven't tried their vegan option.
